At our Homecoming BBQ on Saturday October 19, Dr. James A. Coalson was awarded the Outstanding Alumni of the Year and Austin and Katie Shero were recognized as this year’s Young Professionals.

Dr. Coalson graduated from ACU in 1966 with a degree Animal Science and went on to get his master’s and Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition from Oklahoma State University. From there he went on to work and teach at North Carolina State University. He has held positions such as International Research Director and Director of Feed Research at Central Soya Company and has been a Vice President for Consolidated Nutrition, Darling International and Merrick’s Inc. Dr. Coalson has been an adjunct professor teaching Animal Science courses here at ACU for the past few years.

Austin Shero graduated from ACU in 2005 and his wife Katie Shero graduated from ACU in 2006. Mr. Shero is currently working with the National Resources Conservation Service on the National Water Quality Initiative. He has been working specifically in the Corsicana and Waxahachie areas on the Chambers Creek Watershed. Mrs. Shero is currently working as a Manager and Technician at Lake Worth Animal Hospital in Lake Worth, Texas.

It is great to see the graduates of our department making a difference in the world outside of the ACU bubble.
