A&E Alum Helping with Philippines Disaster Relief

In November, Alex Wann, a 2010 graduate of ACU’s A&E Department, was called to help with disaster relief after super typhoon Yolando hit the Philippines. Wann has been working with Samaritan’s Purse in Bolivia with water quality.

Wann worked at the Samaritan’s Purse base in Tacloban City, which was hit very hard by the storm. His work included water, sanitation and hygiene, but focused on sanitation. Wann said “these kinds of interventions are critical in the aftermath of such a disaster to prevent the spread of disease.” Wann said the work would be intense and communication would be scarce, but he was excited to see what God would do through this situation.

If you would like to keep up with the efforts of Samaritan’s Purse the best ways to do that are through their Facebook page and blog. If you feel that you would like to donate to the cause Alex encourages you to do so. Most of all, Alex asks for your prayers. Here are a few things he is asking for prayer for:

“-That in the midst of an overwhelming environment, that our team could cling to God’s powerful strength to carry out or working tasks and in a way that tangibly shares the hope of Christ

-for the people that have lost family members, homes, businesses and life as they know it…that they may find hope and encouragement

-for the sustained health of the team against any illness, especially Dengue fever

-that we can do our best to process overwhelming emotions at the foot of the cross in the midst of the sights, smells, sounds and stories we’ll experience

-that when we have time to sleep we can really sleep hard to recharge for the next day

-that we can take care of our bodies as best as possible (i.e. good nutrition, etc.)

-for me personally to sleep as best I can on the flights tomorrow.  I’m already running low from a youth retreat with my church in Trinidad, Bolivia this weekend, and a hectic Monday preparing to leave, and a long day of travel today.”
