Year-long Practica for M.S.S.W. Students

This summer Liz Savoy and Christin King moved into an apartment in Dallas.  They are Master of Science in Social Work students who are completing their degree program while embedded at CitySquare for practica.  They chose CitySquare as the context for their learning after their first year experience in Abilene introduced them to CitySquare.

Liz is an intern at TRAC (Transitional Resource Action Center).  She works with kids currently in the foster system as well as the youth who have aged out of the foster system. Liz works closely with each youth helping them develop and improve the skills they need to be an independent adult. She also helps with the youth who are currently in the transitional housing program where they live in provided apartments for up to 12 months.  During that time TRAC helps them to find a job, school and a home (read more about TRAC).

Christin is an AmeriCorps intern working at CitySquare’s Food Distribution Center.  Neighbors that come to the food pantry to get food are often in need of other services and/or help (housing, clothing, counseling, etc).  Christin’s work is to connect with these neighbors and help them find the services they need.
