In week 1 of a two-part conversation, Dr. Steven Moore and Dr. Tracy Shilcutt will present What is Worldview? What in the world does Michael Jackson have to do with understanding worldview? This conversation will show how a contemporary work of art opens the door to a scholarly exploration race, gender, and class. We live in a very complex world of complex problems and this class will challenge your thinking on why we are so divided as humans; it has everything to do with one’s worldview.

Whenever we think of “Worldview” we just give it a general description. However i feel that there is a difference between a “Christian Worldview” and a “Non believer’s worldview”. When we look at life through a Christian’s scope I feel that we take into consideration the Lord’s will before we act on a situation. Without a Christian Worldview it is like looking through a blurred scope. We tend to lose a sight of what the Lord has planned for us whenever we look through the “World’s Point of View” and we stray away from the Lord and into temptation. Kevin Roose had a great opportunity to see the world through two polar opposite scopes. Even though he started off on the wrong path he was able to change and push towards a life of meaning. We all make mistakes and I feel that we all will fall off the beaten path at one point, but what truly matters is if we make the attempt to turn back to the Lord. Being a Christian and having a “Christian worldview” I enjoy ACU greatly, however I can only imagine what someone who was not a Christian would go through. I feel that it would be a good thing for someone who doesn’t know the Lord to be involved at ACU because it can be a life changing experience. Hopefully ACU will continue to bring in non believers year after year and continue to work hard to have a voice and move in their lives.
I think that too often we give the world a negative view. Yes, there are many awful things that happen in the world. But as a Christian, I think it is our duty to see the world differently and want to change it for the better, not just accept all of its faults and negativity. I think that there is a difference between a “modern worldview” and a “Christian worldview”. A person with a modern worldview is willing to accept that the world is a dark and hopeless place, whereas a Christian with a Christian worldview views the world with eyes that are wanting to change it. Christians are not supposed to focus on all of the negative things happening in the world; I believe Christians see the potential of people and work to encourage them and let them know that they have a hope in Jesus.
I personally believe that world view cant be the same for everyone. It changes from everyones different perspectives. Whether it is from a hispanic, white, black, christian, jewish or an athiest perspective. Everyone views the world, other people, and their surroundings differently. Personally I view the world through the eyes of a christian white male. My view is that God will protect me and guide me through everything I do. With this I view people without the same belief differently. They in turn view me in the same sceptical way. I have my understand and knowledge that I believe is true and they have theirs. This does not mean that we can not coexist, but it just means that we see things about the world differently. No matter what though we should treat others with the respect and love that Jesus would show them. That is the most important thing of all.
I really liked what Dr. Moore said during his presentation, in terms of worldview depends on the individual and what “lens” he chooses to view the world through. I view the world completely differently when I’m looking at it from a business perspective than if I was looking at the world through a caring/human compassion perspective. These lens are what help us differentiate what is and is not important because otherwise we would be too overwhelmed with everything that is happening in the world. And what we choose to pay attention to and what not to ay attention to defines who we are and what type of values we have as an individual.
All I can say is WOW. Dr Moore has a world view that is hard to follow. Being military in the past i really understand what he is saying. The people that we come in contact with are vast. If we just can stop and listen really listen and then understand we can learn a lot. This really allows you to have a larger set of lens to see the world. I do agree race should not matter one way or the other people are people, a child is a child no matter where you are from.
This is my favorite video so far, I like how he talks about music being the voice of every generation.
the music video of Michel Jackson helped me thinking about world view a lot because during just 4 or 5 minutes, I felt like I saw the whole world. world view, seeing the world, thinking what my world view is makes me think how the world should be.
When we live in small own world, there are so many things we cannot notice. This video made me get out from my small world and gave me a wider world vision than I used to have.
