Poet Sarah Cortez comes to ACU

Writer Sarah Cortez visited classrooms and gave a public reading of her poetry and prose this past week. She shared from both her childhood and from her experience as a police officer for one of Houston’s surrounding districts.

Our own Dr. Beatriz Walker took Sarah’s works and translated them for her students to read as Cortez listened to her poems in both English and Spanish.

Professor Al Haley showed Sarah around Abilene and hosted a public reading in Hart Auditorium.

Law enforcement from around Abilene received an invitation to her reading where Cortez invited the audience on a  ride-along through the streets of Houston. Brutally honest and beautifully presented, Sarah Cortez’s poetry and prose were magnificent to hear and experience.
