Griggs Center Student Leaders Headed to Central America
This spring break several of our student leaders will be going on a Global Entrepreneur mission trip to Honduras. Through the Griggs Center, many trips are planned throughout the year to give students the opportunity to see how business works all around the world. Recently, we sat down with a couple of the students going on the trip, Ridg Terry, a senior marketing major from Roby, Texas and Erika Teilmann, a junior management major from Sugarland, Texas to find out a little bit more about the trip. Below is an excerpt from our conversation. What exactly will you be doing in Honduras? Erika: While in Honduras, we will be working alongside Mission Lazarus, a mission organization founded by ACU alumnus Jarrod Brown, to assist with building latrines as a part of their greater public health initiative and to meet with local community members to brainstorm a number of new business opportunities, utilizing native skills and natural resources. How do you see this trip weaving into your entrepreneurial education? How do you think going on a service trip to Honduras will help prepare you to be a more successful entrepreneur? Erika: The CEO Spring Break trip to Honduras allows students to observe how others are using their backgrounds/skills in business to impact communities around the world. Ridg: I see it as by helping someone else, I am also better realizing all the opportunities I’ve been given and to take to full advantage of them. What are you most looking forward to on this trip? Ridg: I’m looking forward to seeing where Mission Lazarus is, visiting South America, experiencing their culture and eating their food! I’ve heard their coffee is amazing! We ask that you join us in praying for this group of students as they travel to Central America for this trip.
