Retired librarian and ACU alumna Karen (Nelson ’65) Hendrick was honored at a luncheon on September 18 as 2018 Friend of the Year by Friends of ACU Library in recognition of her 32 years of service and dedication in mentoring students, faculty and staff –  providing many hours of instruction and research on the use of the Library’s electronic databases and print collections.

Hendrick was introduced by Mark McCallon, Associate Dean for Library Information Services.

Library dean Dr. John Weaver presented the award and announced that the reference collection in the Reading Commons would be named after her.

Hendrick’s speech at the luncheon, Legacies and Treasures, reflected on her family’s history of giving at ACU and how a servant’s heart can make an impact on the lives of people around them. She spoke fondly of her aunt, Elizabeth (Allred ‘56) Nelson, who was a Mathematics professor at ACC Academy, and who earned a Library Science degree from Columbia before retiring in 1942. The Nelson Dorm is named after Elizabeth Nelson.
