National Senior Citizens Day    spotlights the active lives and significant contributions that older adults make in their communities across the United States. It was also created to bring awareness of social, health, and economic issues that affect older adults.

In 1988 President Ronald Reagan, declared August 21 to be National Senior Citizens Day as one method to “offer older citizens our thanks and a heartfelt salute.”

5 Things you can do to celebrate:

1.) Say thank you to the older adults in your family for their contributions to your life.

2.) Look for ways to offer a kindness to an older adult. The Corner Bakery, for instance, is offering free drinks to older adults today.

3.) Complete a volunteer task or job for an older person in your community.

4.) Send a greeting card to an older adult in your family and/or community

5.) Pray for the older adults in your family, congregation, and in your life.
