Mentoring Undergraduate Researchers

For: Faculty Mentors

Date and Time: October 1 after Chapel

Location: Adams Center Classroom

Whether are you are new to mentoring undergraduate researchers or have been mentoring students for years, come to this Adams Center session as we share our experiences mentoring students. If you are new, hear from colleagues who have lived the ups and downs of mentoring, and how to learn how to avoid some of the pitfalls. If you are an experienced mentor, come share with those who are just starting out.

Research Ethics and the IRB

For: Faculty Mentors and Research Students

Date and Time: November 5 after Chapel

Location: Adams Center Classroom

Co-hosted by: ORSP

This session will discuss things to consider when doing human subject research. Members of the IRB will address essential parts of the  application and the things that will cause an IRB application to be sent back for revisions.

Preparing Your Students for the Research Festival

For: Faculty Mentors and Research Students

Date and Time: November 519 after Chapel

Location: Adams Center Classroom

This session will cover how abstracts and presentations are evaluated. Concrete tips on how to help your students write better abstracts and give better presentations will be given. We will also discuss the general layout and plan of the research festival.

Tips and Tricks for a Successful Internal Grant Application

For: Faculty Mentors

Date and Time:  January 15 after Chapel

Location: Adams Center Classroom

Co-hosted by: Pursuit and ORSP

Learn the do’s and don’t’s of a successful internal grant application. Hear from directors from Pursuit, ORSP, and OUR about what helps and hurts applications when committees have to decide how to divide a small pot of money.

This session is a repeat from October.

Dr. Cole Bennett, Director of the Writing Center, will give tips on how to write a strong abstract.

How to Make an Effective Poster

For: Student Researchers

Date and Time:  This session will be repeated 3 times.

Location: Library 301 – Computer Lab

Learn how to make effective posters for the Research Festival. The session will cover how to lay out a poster, best programs to use, and things to look out for.
