Academic Integrity

by

Most students are honest in their academic work. I assume that you are honest in your academic work as well. In this class, policies to deter academic dishonesty are not intended to imply that you or many of your fellow students would cheat and/or claim someone else’s work as your own. The policies are intended to respect you as an honest student and to protect you and other honest students from being placed at a disadvantage by the dishonest behavior of any student who would cheat.

The minimum consequence for cheating on any assignment or test will be a grade of “0” for that assignment and a minimum reduction of the semester grade by one letter grade. All cases of academic dishonesty will be reported to appropriate university authorities as stated in the university policy. Additional penalties may be imposed including giving an “F” for the course final grade if the circumstances of the dishonesty warrant. Knowing of academic dishonesty and failing to report that dishonesty constitutes dishonesty on the part of the person who fails to report it.

Violations of academic integrity and other forms of cheating, as defined in ACU’s Academic Integrity Policy, involve the intention to deceive or mislead or misrepresent, and therefore are a form of lying and represent actions contrary to the behavioral norms that flow from the nature of God. Violations will be addressed as described in the Policy. While the university enforces the Policy, the most powerful motive for integrity and truthfulness comes from one’s desire to imitate God’s nature in our lives. Every member of the faculty, staff and student body is responsible for protecting the integrity of learning, scholarship and research. The full Policy is available for review at theĀ Provost’s office website and the following offices: provost, college deans, dean of campus life, director of student judicial affairs, director of residential life education and academic departments.
