Dr. Hamilton has two children, Nathan and Hannah, with his lovely wife, Dr. Samjung Kang-Hamilton, who is an adjunct professor in religious education also at ACU. Dr. Hamilton currently serves as an elder at University Church of Christ and enjoys being able to serve and interact with all sorts of people through that. Recently, Dr. Hamilton published <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A Kingdom for a Stage<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a political and theological reflection of the Old Testament. Read more below about his book and what enc<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ouraged him to begin writing in the first place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>A synopsis of your newest book, <\/b><b><i>A Kingdom for a Stage:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1725 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/acugst\/files\/2018\/03\/11356_00_detail-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"191\" height=\"286\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/acugst\/files\/2018\/03\/11356_00_detail-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/acugst\/files\/2018\/03\/11356_00_detail-100x150.jpg 100w, https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/acugst\/files\/2018\/03\/11356_00_detail-327x490.jpg 327w, https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/acugst\/files\/2018\/03\/11356_00_detail.jpg 358w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 191px) 100vw, 191px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis book shows how Israelite political thought sometimes supported the power structures but more often held them at arms&#8217; length, forming the basis of the centuries-long critique of politics that is part of Western thought. \u00a0It examines rhetorical practices of Israelite texts as they developed over time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What inspired you to write this book?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI&#8217;ve been interested for many years in how the Old Testament talks about social and political matters, especially what we would call politics. \u00a0This is the second book I&#8217;ve written on the subject. Israel&#8217;s reflections on kingship and other political structures and practices paved the way for our sense that humans should follow a rule of law and should protect human dignity while honoring God. \u00a0These Old Testament texts have important implications for today.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mark is author of more than 100 articles, chapters in books, and reviews. \u00a0His books include <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Body Royal: The Social Poetics of Kingship<\/span><\/i><i>in Ancient Israel and the Levant<\/i> (Brill, 2005; reprinted Society of Biblical Literature, 2007),<i> On the Mountain with God<\/i> (ACU Press, 2009), <i>A Theological Introduction to the Old Testament<\/i> (Oxford University Press, 2018), <i>A Kingdom for a Stage<\/i> (Mohr Siebeck, 2018), as a co-editor <i>Renewing Tradition: Studies in Texts and Contexts <\/i>(Pickwick, 2007), and as a co-author<i> God\u2019s Holy Fire: The Nature and Function of Scripture<\/i> (ACU Press, 2002). \u00a0He also served as Editor-in-Chief of <i>Transforming Word: A One-Volume Bible Commentary<\/i> (ACU Press, 2009; Croatian translation, 2011-). \u00a0His articles and reviews have appeared in many major journals.
