ACU's Online Master of Divinity Program

Have you always wished you could help others draw closer to God? Do you enjoy wrestling with theological issues and exploring faith, both on your own and in the company of other Christians? Do you wish you could do God’s work on Earth more effectively, and for a living?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, the Master of Divinity could be for you. Our highly respected program positions you to do work at home and abroad in a variety of settings. Whether you want to serve the community into which you were born or yearn to travel the world bringing the Gospel to far-flung villages, you’ll get your start through this program.

First, though, here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions here. Read through them before turning to our program page for more details. Let’s get started.

What Will I Learn?
The amount of knowledge, charity and faith you will acquire throughout the course of the Master of Divinity cannot be adequately summed up in a single paragraph. However, a few of the takeaways include a deep understanding of religious history; a thorough familiarity with contemporary culture and how it relates to the Kingdom of God; leadership skills that will help you guide a flock at home or abroad; tools to enable you to care for other souls; and an expansive and compassionate Christian character.

What Focuses Do You Offer?
We offer two different tracks: Ministry and Missions. If your heart lies in teaching people right here at home, Ministry is probably right for you. With this degree, you’re qualified to start your own ministry or join a church in a variety of roles. If you love working with the same people day after day, year after year, becoming a true member of a community, the Ministry track will make you very happy.

Others desire to travel, to bring God’s word to people who might not otherwise be able to hear it. In that case, the Missions track is perfect. You’ll learn how to spread the message most effectively and earn the skills to guide others in doing so as well.

How Long Does the Program Take?
The Master of Divinity requires 72 credit hours, which usually translates to between 3 and 4 years. This is true of both the Ministry and Mission tracks. The program length may be shortened or lengthened depending on how much time you have to devote to it and how much time you take off for other pursuits while completing it.

What Can I Do Afterwards?
Students who earn a Master of Divinity are well-equipped for a wide range of career choices. You might choose to get a job ministering to a congregation, or you could spend the next several years of your life on missions, helping communities across the world get basic services and draw closer to God.

On the other hand, you might choose to increase your schooling further after earning a Master of Divinity. With this degree in hand, you’re set up to pursue a theology degree at the doctoral level, including a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), a Doctor of Theology (Th.D.) or a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.). With any one of these degrees, you can make an even greater difference.

What Do I Need in Order to Apply?
Application requirements are fairly basic. You will need to fill out a form with your information, then submit your transcript from undergrad (with a required B average). You will also need to submit two letters of recommendation from people who can attest to your seriousness, professionalism, academic interests and suitability for the program. Lastly, you’ll need to provide a writing sample that follows these guidelines.
