Dallas, Texas – Abilene Christian University is launching a new online degree offering – Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing – beginning in May 2021. The RN to BSN program is offered through ACU Online and is designed for licensed RNs who want to pursue a BSN degree while continuing to practice.

“This is a great opportunity for ACU to expand on our commitment to educating leaders. This program will provide working registered nurses with the ability to expand on their current expertise and achieve their career and educational goals,” said Dr. Stephen Johnson, vice president and chief administrative officer for ACU Online.

The RN to BSN is completed entirely online, consisting of short seven-week courses with multiple start dates throughout the year. Through the RN to BSN track, registered nurses can earn a CCNE-accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing in as few as eight months. With work experience in nursing and an active, unencumbered RN license, students will be granted 32 hours of nursing course credit, allowing them to complete the degree in 28 track hours.

The RN to BSN curriculum focuses on leadership, ethics, evidence-based practice and community nursing. ACU nursing programs are led by expert Christian faculty who are educating and empowering the next generation of nurses to face modern-day challenges in healthcare.

“Increasingly, employers recognize the need for BSN-prepared nurses to meet the complex demands of the healthcare industry,” said Dr. Marcia Straughn, dean of ACU’s School of Nursing. “The addition of an online path to earning a BSN from ACU allows practicing nurses to advance their education and their careers while still serving patients in their communities.”

Upon completion of ACU Online’s RN to BSN, those students who wish to earn a doctoral degree in nursing may continue into the online Bachelor of Science in Nursing to Doctorate of Nursing Practice program to expedite the completion of a DNP degree.

ACU’s nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. For more information on the RN to BSN, visit

What a find! The online offering will give numerous Associate trained RNs the chance to advance their careers. This is perfect for nurses who must continue to work their “day jobs”, while quietly inching toward updated credentials. Way to go ACU!
