Welcome back! Join us as we kick off a year of thinking and learning at Faculty Fusion on Friday, August 16, 2018. Friday morning we’ll offer sessions on various teaching strategies, and then, on Friday afternoon, we’ll have an extended training session focusing on extending hospitality and welcome to our students. We look forward to thinking and learning with you. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided.

You can RSV below or by emailing rsvp2ac@acu.edu, or by calling the Adams Center at 325-674-2455. Registering saves your spot in each session and allows us to know how many to expect. We look forward to seeing you!

Communicating Academic Integrity Expectations: It Clearly Matters: Amy Boone, Rachel Riley, Andy Little
The Woods: Despite the fact that ACU offers standardized language for the university’s Academic Integrity policy, what is considered a violation of academic integrity in one course — collaborating on homework, using sources on an online test — may be acceptable behavior in another. How can individual professors communicate academic integrity expectations to students most effectively? Bring your laptop or syllabi as we will spend time considering ways to clearly communicate academic integrity in your courses.

I’ve Gotten an Accommodation Request: Now What? Liz Brown
The Classroom: Do you ever have questions (or maybe even some confusion) about what goes into determining academic accommodations, your related responsibilities, and what to do if concerns arise? Come learn about your role as faculty in helping implement academic accommodations for students with needs and challenges.

Studio: Video for your Canvas Course: Marisa Beard
Bamboo Room: How do I add a video to my canvas course for my students to watch outside of class? How do I make sure that students are watching assigned videos? How can students submit videos as assignments? If you’ve ever had these questions or are just wondering what the new “Studio” button on the side of your Canvas dashboard is, check out this introduction to one of ACU’s new resources in Canvas by attending this introduction and how-to session.

10:00am

Canvas@ACU 101 – An Introduction to Starting your Canvas Courses at ACU: Stephen Recktenwald
The Woods: Not sure how to get your rosters or content into Canvas this fall? This introduction to how to leverage ACU’s Learning Management System will get you up and running in Canvas to provide your students with the digital resources they need to be successful.

Wit and Wisdom from 2018-2019 Teachers of the Year
The Classroom: ACU has excellent teaching all over campus. Join us for a panel discussion and conversation on excellent teaching, where we’ll talk about both successes and flops.

What did you read on your summer vacation?: Laura Carroll
The Bamboo Room: Come find out what we’ll be reading in our four reading groups this fall and share what’s been on your reading list this summer, from heady academic reads to pulpy beach fiction.

11:00am

Crafting (Better) Writing Prompts: Cole Bennett
The Woods: Do your students often ask you to clarify your essay instructions after you assign them? Do they sometimes turn in well-written papers that miss your rhetorical intent? Many times, a carefully crafted prompt can forego this confusion and support your pedagogical goals as students seek to answer them. In this session, Cole Bennett will invite you to focus on how you ask students to write and provide strategies you may find useful. You are urged to bring prompts that you might wish to revise.

Student Video Projects with Adobe Rush: Kyle Dickson
The Bamboo Room: Many students arrive on campus as storytellers and media producers. Join us to hear faculty share how they’ve used video projects to tap into these new literacies. We’ll also showcase Adobe’s Premiere Rush as a tool for producing video projects with minimal training.
