Through the program, the Faculty Development Committee seeks to identify and support teachers who have the potential to make a lasting impact on their students, colleagues, or disciplines as they design and adopt new courses or engaging pedagogical practices. Innovation may involve creating something brand new, introducing something new to the ACU community, or renewing something from the rich history of teaching excellence at ACU. The grant exists to:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Promote the exchange of ideas about the art of teaching.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Renew or revitalize methods of teaching, evaluation, and assessment for increased student engagement and learning.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Support ongoing learning for faculty in order to maintain the highest standards of knowledge and practice in their chosen fields.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Create space for the thoughtful integration of new technologies into the learning process.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Expedite curriculum innovation and development.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Encourage the development of international educational interests and multicultural perspectives.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Faculty Development Committee solicits project proposals that demonstrate value to individuals and their colleagues and the teaching\/learning process. These projects may include, but are not limited to, the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Designing new courses.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Redesigning courses by:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Integrating Christian values into teaching practices or course curriculum.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Developing service-learning, experiential-learning, or community-engagement components in an existing course.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Incorporating multicultural or international perspectives in course materials or assignments.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Integrating technology, software, or media projects into the curriculum and assessing its effectiveness.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Researching and implementing new teaching methods, pedagogical innovations, or assessment strategies, particularly those that encourage student success, engagement, and retention.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Updating or retooling in a field that has developed or changed significantly; integrating new areas of study into current areas of teaching.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Attending intensive regional or national workshops, whose focus is on academic or teaching topics, with an intent to implement the innovations in the curriculum. Applicants must be willing to participate in faculty enrichment forums the following year to disseminate the results of their work.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All proposals should demonstrate an adherence to the mission statement and goals of Abilene Christian University.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Grant Amounts <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Four Teaching Innovation Grants may be awarded each summer. The amount of each grant will be $5,000.\u00a0 During the school year following the grant, recipients will make a presentation to the faculty based on their work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Qualifications\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All full-time faculty are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to applicants who have not received a Teaching Innovation Grant or Curriculum Development Stipend in the last three years.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Work applicable to a terminal degree is not eligible.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Applicants cannot hold a Teaching Innovation Grant and a Cullen Research Grant or Math-Science Grant during the same summer.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Recipients cannot teach more than one three-hour course during the summer of their grant award.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Active members of the Faculty Development Committee who choose to apply will recuse themselves from considering Teaching Innovation Grant applications during that cycle.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>Deadlines<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Due by 5 p.m. on the last Monday of January. These projects may include, but are not limited to, the following:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Transform courses, integrating Christian values, developing service-learning components, or incorporating multicultural perspectives in courses.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Research and implement new teaching methods, pedagogical innovations, or assessment strategies.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Integrate technology into the curriculum and assess its effectiveness (preparing computer modules to support classroom assignments; developing software for classroom use).<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Internationalize a course (possibly in conjunction with a study abroad experience).<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Update in a field that has developed or changed significantly, integrating new areas of study into your current areas of teaching.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Allow faculty members to attend intensive regional or national workshops, whose focus is on academic or teaching topics, then implement the innovations in the curriculum. Applicants must be willing to participate in faculty enrichment forums the following year to disseminate the results of their work.
