Faculty in various fields of study shared the significance of Black influence in that field.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The first session included art, music, and film. <\/span><b>Robert Green<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> presented work by Kerry James Marshall and Kara Walker. <\/span><b>Jeff Goolsby<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><b>Sam Cook<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> highlighted Negro Spirituals and Gospel music with two student groups who each performed songs from these two musical styles. <\/span><b>Leslie Reed Senter<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> shared the history of Black Independent Cinema and then highlighted three current independent Black films: \u201cLuce,\u201d \u201cWaves,\u201d and \u201cUnCorked.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The second session featured literature, theology, and Black fraternities and sororities. <\/span><b>Todd Womble<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> discussed features of literature written by Black authors and\/or featuring Black characters and themes relevant to the Black experience. He shared the following books: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Salvage the Bones, Clotel or the President\u2019s Daughter, Giovanni\u2019s Room, Revival Season, Homegoing,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Memorial<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><b>Amy McLaughlin-Sheasby<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> detailed the history of the Black church and Black theologians. Included among those highlighted were Howard Thurman, James Cone, Willie Jennings, M. Shawn Copeland, Delores Williams, Katie Cannon, Jacquelyn Grant, Emilie Townes, Esau McCaulley, and Gardner Taylor. <\/span><b>Ramonica Scott<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> provided the history of Black fraternities and sororities including dance steps, famous Black Americans associated with the various clubs, and the ongoing connection those in these organizations enjoy throughout their lives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Everyone in attendance left encouraged and inspired by the individuals and contributions shared and by the expertise and passion of their colleagues.
