{"id":2977,"date":"2014-01-16T15:36:38","date_gmt":"2014-01-16T20:36:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/adamscenter\/?p=2977"},"modified":"2020-07-06T11:19:56","modified_gmt":"2020-07-06T16:19:56","slug":"a-matter-of-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/adamscenter\/2014\/01\/16\/a-matter-of-time\/","title":{"rendered":"A Matter of Time &#8211; CourseSites"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Please note that CourseSites uses Eastern Time, and we were told that it is not yet possible to customize it to use Central Time. \u00a0\u00a0This has implications for time-sensitive information.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">For instance, if you set your quiz to be available at 9:00AM, the quiz will be available at 8:00AM Central Time. \u00a0Students may find it available too early and perhaps unavailable anymore at 9:00 Central Time (if, for example, you made it available for only 15 minutes). \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Similarly, if you set your due time for an assignment to be 11:59PM, \u00a0students using Central Time here will find they cannot submit after 10:59PM. \u00a0\u00a0It is therefore necessary to set the due date to be 1:00AM the next day.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Here are some of our suggestions to address the issue:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Convert your time to Eastern Time and use Eastern Time to set up your tests and assignments. \u00a0\u00a0To convert your time to Eastern Time, check this <a href=\"http:\/\/wwp.greenwichmeantime.com\/time-zone\/usa\/converters\/central-time-eastern-time.htm\">time zone converter<\/a>. \u00a0\u00a0Please make sure you tell students what is going on.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">You do not set the display time for your assessments while using &#8220;availability&#8221; tool to turn a quiz on or off. \u00a0Alternatively, keep the quiz available, and set a password for the quiz. \u00a0\u00a0Announce the password when you intend to start the quiz.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/IHFLJAQ7Rpq8HhQaUKPPYNOm-A7Edd537BZelx5kbDao_TX9Xgk7AkeA-VR428oxSRrTtM4hyaRgsqP9sVWubUuKncnQUTtlmvh_vUH0EsR6GuEdLhS0BwJMvQ\" alt=\"\" width=\"313px;\" height=\"48px;\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/Xv9k1VqZPKylLOUWoSKBQOtLbuTNPn3WNgn2l0DtBz5fj_ZlEG0uN1dG10d_qhI5ypMqYJT71qUyjTK7kKM2yWJTIy9-bE6ivNNFS6uj30FmQ3SBcuzMKCa3gQ\" alt=\"\" width=\"443px;\" height=\"221px;\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Turn the editor mode to \u201coff\u201d to see a student view of your course. \u00a0This will allow you to see if your quiz can be seen or not. \u00a0You will notice that there is a editor mode button on the top right hand corner of your page. \u00a0Click on it once to toggle between \u201con\u201d and \u201coff\u201d. \u00a0When it is \u201coff\u201d, you see the course as students would see it (except the control panel which you can still see.)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/QSgUUd3F32Dxb8jWpTNXd2imbbRibJM3TZkyWwmepKKlWdeB2s9CQrCNTfVY4fsqvZh9U7dMfliddHQgGRM9UTjNGswfwm_ZUd9PtnnozafIb4WtIFz_s9kBhA\" alt=\"\" width=\"175px;\" height=\"41px;\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Contact Berlin Fang with any questions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Please note that CourseSites uses Eastern Time, and we were told that it is not yet possible to customize it to use Central Time. \u00a0\u00a0This has implications for time-sensitive information.
