{"id":3494,"date":"2015-01-26T08:00:26","date_gmt":"2015-01-26T14:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/adamscenter\/?p=3494"},"modified":"2020-07-06T10:58:43","modified_gmt":"2020-07-06T15:58:43","slug":"finding-quality-online-resources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/adamscenter\/2015\/01\/26\/finding-quality-online-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Finding quality online resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A number of our professors use Turnitin to check originality of student papers. \u00a0Turnitin helps to compare student work with its repository of student papers, as well as online sources.<\/p>\n<p>What if students have cited every source properly, but the sources they cited from are not\u00a0good\u00a0sources?<\/p>\n<p>Check the following video made by <a href=\"http:\/\/umwnewmedia.org\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Mary Washington&#8217;s New Media Center<\/a>\u00a0about the CRAAP test (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>c<\/strong><\/span>urrency, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>r<\/strong><\/span>elevance, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">a<\/span><\/strong>uthority, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">a<\/span><\/strong>ccuracy, and <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">p<\/span><\/strong>urpose) that can be applied to check the quality of online sources.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Checking for CRAAP\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UV55BE9IscM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>If you use rubrics in your teaching, it is a good idea to develop a\u00a0rubric to share this test, and apply the rubric to evaluate their bibliographies.<\/p>\n<p>University librarians should also be able to help students evaluate online sources.
