{"id":4203,"date":"2016-05-11T15:01:16","date_gmt":"2016-05-11T20:01:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/adamscenter\/?p=4203"},"modified":"2020-07-06T11:29:59","modified_gmt":"2020-07-06T16:29:59","slug":"using-turnitin-lti-in-canvas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/adamscenter\/2016\/05\/11\/using-turnitin-lti-in-canvas\/","title":{"rendered":"Using Turnitin LTI in Canvas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Turnitin and Canvas are phasing out the Turnitin API tool in Canvas. \u00a0Instead, you are encouraged to use the LTI tool.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>When is the change taking place?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In order to minimize disruption, we no longer turn on the API tool when switching to the new Canvas user interface on June 18, 2016, the date set to switch to the new Canvas user interface (<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/adamscenter\/2016\/05\/02\/canvas-is-getting-a-new-look\/\">check here for more information<\/a>). \u00a0However, the LTI tool is available to use now if you will be teaching a summer course.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the Turnitin LTI?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The LTI tool, also known as &#8220;external tool&#8221;, allows Canvas users to use the full features of Turnitin, including Peermark. Save the assignment setting when you have done the above.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What happens to the API?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you used to be choosing &#8220;online&#8221;\u00a0in the submission type and you click on the checkbox beside &#8220;Enable Turnitin Submission&#8221;, you were using the API tool, which Turnitin\u00a0is phasing out. \u00a0In our <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/adamscenter\/2015\/04\/09\/integrating-turnitin-in-canvas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">earlier instructional video<\/a>, we were showing the old API method.\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> If you have not used this method anyway, the change will not affect you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Suggestions for Faculty<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>If you intend to use Turnitin, please remember you will use Turnitin&#8217;s grading tools instead of the Canvas Speedgrader.\u00a0It is not possible (nor necessary) to use both after Canvas and Turnitin phase out the API tool. \u00a0However, it is possible to use Canvas assignment tool with the convenience of the Speedgrader, etc., while using Turnitin through its site at Turnitin.com for cases that you suspect of plagiarism.
