POLS 420: Public Service

The Jack Pope Fellows Program offers scholarships to outstanding Abilene Christian University students pursuing careers in public service. The Program gives students opportunities to learn about public service in the classroom, attend special lectures, gain practical experience in public service, and participate in service activities. Participation in the Pope Fellows program prepares students for advanced leadership in roles of public service. Pope Fellows are required to complete the Minor in Public Service administered through the Dept. of Political Science.

In May 2013, POLS 420: Public Service will be offered exclusively for Pope Fellows in Dallas at City Square. The seminar provides an intensive introduction to the study of public service with special emphasis on fundamental problems and issues facing practitioners and critical analysis of significant works. Students will meet in ACU at CitySquare’s learning center for instruction. However, they will also interact with CitySquare staff to learn about the philosophy and activities of CitySquare and work along side staff and CitySquare’s neighbors to gain an understanding of the challenges and opportunities of public service in the urban context.
