Students and faculty at the ACU Graduate Orientation STOOD UP FOR TERRY BAGGS today! Dr. Baggs, Chair for the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, was recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and is undergoing chemotherapy. Everyone is praying for his rapid and complete recovery! We love you Dr. Baggs!
Congratulations to Ashley Raybon (left) and Adelaide Rich (right), Communication Sciences and Disorders graduates, who were recently named 2016 University Scholars! ACU honors 50 seniors each spring based on their academic excellence and scholarly endeavors so receiving this award is quiet an honor.
Ashley graduated in May magna cum laude and completed a project entitled “Effects of Fatigue on the Cognitive-Linguistic Features of a Person with a Traumatic Brain Injury” while in the McNair Scholars program. She plans to attend graduate school at Texas Tech University in the fall.
Adelaide participated in conducted several research projects while at ACU: “Lack of Services for Those Affected by Autism in the UK“, “Perceived Living Arrangements in Later Life”, and “Religious Coping and Mental Health in Later Life”. She graduated summa cum laude in May and plans to attend Texas State University this fall.
The faculty of the CSD Department is proud to have these two young ladies represent the Department and ACU!
Dr. Cortney Baker, owner of KidsCare Therapy, enjoyed lunch with students of the CSD Department while on campus for TEDxACU. Talking initially about her experiences after graduate school, she then shared about her decision to take a risk and to start a pediatric home health company. Dr. Baker candidly spoke about the many successes but also the difficulties that occurred during the process. Students were able to question Dr. Baker about her own experiences as well as her recommendations for them and their future paths.
KidsCare Therapy provides pediatric home health care services to children with special needs in Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Waco, Tyler, and the outlying metropolitan areas (kidscaretherapy.com). Children can receive services from physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists, with several of those SLPs being ACU alumni!
Thank you, Dr. Baker, for the encouragement you provided to the ACU speech pathology students!
