What brought you to ACU-Dallas?
\n<\/span><\/b>I have loved being a practicing speech-language pathologist for many years, but I knew that eventually, I wanted to go into higher education to serve in training future therapists. Working in higher education is something that I have prayed about for a long time. When the opportunity arose with ACU, I knew that it was the Lord’s timing, so I seized the moment.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

What area of speech and language is your specialty\/favorite?
\n<\/span><\/b>I feel blessed that I have had the opportunity to work in several settings over the course of my career. I have enjoyed them all, but I will say that my favorite\/specialty is in the area of pediatrics preschool-aged feeding\/swallowing, traumatic brain injury, apraxia of speech and language disorders. It is really hard to name just one area because I honestly enjoy learning about and working with a variety.<\/span><\/p>\n

What environments have you worked in?
\n<\/span><\/b>I have worked in rehabilitation hospitals outpatient and inpatient (adults and pediatrics), I have worked in an outpatient medical facility (pediatrics), private practice and I have also worked in public schools.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

How would you describe your teaching method?
\n<\/b>I teach and present concepts in a variety of ways including hands-on practice, videos, case studies, and personal examples. My goal is to include a variety of student learning methods and styles.<\/span><\/p>\n

How does faith impact your profession or the profession of speech-language pathology in general?
\n<\/b>As a clinician and educator in the field, there is a unique opportunity to integrate God in His awesomeness with the profession. The role and responsibility of a clinical educator and a clinician to assist others with the fundamental right of communication, allowing their voice to be heard, articulating the sound, or speaking a word whether it be verbally or by means of augmentation is a true reward. The profession of speech-language pathology is a ministry, it is a true calling from the Lord to assist in the healing process of others.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

What is your favorite restaurant in Addison?
\n<\/span><\/b>I<\/span> don’t think I have a “favorite” restaurant in Addison, but I love Italian food!<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

What do you do to relax?
\n<\/span><\/b>Walking\/Hiking, going to the beach, spending time with my family.<\/span><\/p>\n

What advice can you give to graduate students?
\n<\/span><\/b>Give God your first. What I mean by this, is to make Him your first priority in everything. Be flexible, every clinical setting, instructor,\u00a0 and semester will be different. Those who are most flexible will have better success. Study to be competent. You have made it, you are in graduate school. You are no longer studying to make a good grade, you are studying to be a competent professional in your field. Plan accordingly, do not wait until the last minute to complete assignments. Connect with your cohort, and finally, know that your professors and instructors are here for you. Do not hesitate to reach out when needed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/strong>Anything<\/span> related to home decor and renovations (HGTV and Magnolia Network)

What are your hobbies?
\n<\/span><\/b>I love doing crafts, cooking dinner with my husband and daughter, walking\/hiking<\/span>

\n<\/span><\/strong>I don’t have a favorite singer. I love praise and worship music. Currently, I am listening to Maverick City, Elevation Worship, Lauren Daigle, Micah Tyler, Cory Asbury.
