Welcome to ACU! We’re looking forward to a great year in Cornerstone. We’ve assembled an excellent faculty and an exciting group of weekly Spotlight speakers that will challenge our thinking this semester. It’s a great year to join us at ACU.
A couple things you’ll want to know about our first week of classes
- This week and this week only our Spotlight featured speaker in Cullen Auditorium will be on Wednesday (August 28). Classes sit together in assigned rows, so please come to Cullen a few minutes early to find your teacher and classmates.
- Please download the Cornerstone eBook on your iPad BEFORE your first class meeting Monday. To save time, follow the download instructions here.
A word about the purpose of the class
Cornerstone, as the name implies, aims to provide a foundation for the rest of your liberal arts education at ACU. We hope to stimulate your curiosity, introduce you to different ways of exploring the world, and help you reflect on how your own work might fit within the larger work of God in the world.
Then, throughout the rest of your education, you can continue to build on this foundation, broadening your knowledge of different academic disciplines while specializing in one area of study that equips you for the contributions you will make to the world.
American writer Wendell Berry once claimed, “What universities are mandated to make . . . is human beings, . . . not just trained workers or knowledgeable citizens but responsible heirs and members of human culture.” Together in Cornerstone, we’ll begin work on the foundations of this ambitious project.
