Mark Driscoll is the pastor of the Mars Hill Church in Seattle, Washington. His church numbers in the thousands, and he has considerable influence in several streams of Christianity.
Recently, in a sermon series entitled “Doctrine: What Christians Should Believe,” Driscoll responded to the popular book The Shack, by William P. Young. In The Shack, Young characterizes the members of the Trinity in some atypical ways. Driscoll takes issue with these characterizations, leveling a serious critique on the book. Listen to this short clip from his sermon, and consider the questions below.
Discussion Questions:
1. What do you think about Driscoll’s notion that trying to envision or picture God in any way is sinful?
2. What do you think of his notion that envisioning God as other than father involves you in Goddess worship?
3. Finally, Driscoll’s last statment is, “Who is God?..That’s the biggest question there is?” After our time together, what is your understanding of God?
