Poet Sarah Cortez comes to ACU

Writer Sarah Cortez visited classrooms and gave a public reading of her poetry and prose this past week. She shared from both her childhood and from her experience as a police officer for one of Houston’s surrounding districts. IMG_3174

Our own Dr. Beatriz Walker took Sarah’s works and translated them for her students to read as Cortez listened to her poems in both English and Spanish.

Professor Al Haley showed Sarah around Abilene and hosted a public reading in Hart Auditorium. IMG_3179

Law enforcement from around Abilene received an invitation to her reading where Cortez invited the audience on a  ride-along through the streets of Houston. Brutally honest and beautifully presented, Sarah Cortez’s poetry and prose were magnificent to hear and experience.

If you were able to be at any of Sarah Cortez’s appearances, thank you! Your attendance only furthers the likelihood of great writers coming to ACU to share their work and life experiences!
