Meet Scott Sherrell

Scott Sherrell is a Sophomore with a major in Political Science and a Minor in French. He is expected to graduate in 2017. Since arriving at ACU, Scott has joined the Honors College and has become a member of the Frater Sodalis social club. He also volunteers regularly for the International Rescue Committee and is involved in the on campus organization Swing Cats.

Meet Nicole Garza

Nicole Garza is a Junior from San Antonio, Texas who recently transferred to ACU. She is working to complete a degree in English, with a minor in Theatre. She has performed in and directed several theatre productions in the past, and has been published in her former college’s literary magazine.

In the future, Nicole is looking forward to one day working as an editor, as well as publishing her own full-length novel.

Nicole would like to thank her family, especially her parents, who have always pushed her to work hard and follow her heart. She would also like to thank the various teachers who have inspired her and encouraged her to pursue writing as a profession.

Meet Kelcei Young

Kelcei Young is a senior English major from McKinney, Texas, with plans of graduating in August 2015. She plans to pursue further education after she graduates. After graduate school, she is considering being involved in either publishing or editing of books then film manuscripts.

She wants to thank her friends, who encouraged her to pursue her dream, her family, who never gave up on her, and her amazing teachers, who helped foster a love and appreciation for English Literature.

Meet Catherine Longest

Catherine Longest is a sophomore at Abilene Christian University majoring in Wildlife and Natural Resource Management with a double minor in Spanish and Biology. She is involved in the Agriculture and Environmental Science Club as well as the Wildlife Society. Catherine is also a flute player in the Big Purple Marching band as well as the ACU Concert Band.

During her freshman year she co-presented a poster presentation at the ACU Undergraduate Research Festival as well as the Agriculture Consortium of Texas at Stephen F. Austin State University. In the fall semester of her sophomore year, she studied abroad in Montevideo, Uruguay as a part of ACU’s first Spanish Immersion program. Catherine was an intern with the primate department of the Houston Zoo in Houston, Texas during the summer after her freshman year. She plans on pursuing a career either with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service working with wildlife and natural resource management or with a zoo working with primates.

Catherine would like to thank her parents for encouraging her to always strive to follow God’s plans for her, to work hard, and to love others. She would also like to thank all the teachers, role models and peers who have helped her along the way.

Meet Sarah Bateman

Sarah Bateman is a junior on the Dean’s Honor Roll at Abilene Christian University. She is majoring in English for Teaching Certification and is from Sugar Land, Texas. During her time at ACU, Sarah has been involved in the social club Alpha Kai Omega, the study abroad program in Oxford, England, and section leading in Sing Song. Outside of school, she enjoys reading, painting, cooking, and watching movies.

After graduation, she plans to teach freshman or sophomore English at the high school level.

Sarah would like to thank her parents and grandparents for always encouraging her to pursue her dreams and never ceasing to help her along the way. She also couldn’t have made it this far without the support of wonderful teachers throughout her education who inspired her to become an educator herself. Most importantly, Sarah would like to give the glory to God for making it possible that she be able to attend ACU, to be surrounded by people on this same path so that ultimately He will use her as a Christian first who happens to teach, not just a teacher who happens to be a Christian.

Meet Alyssa Ross

- alyssa rossAlyssa Ross is a Junior English major from Highland Village, Texas. She is a member of the Big Purple Marching Band, a student in the Honors College, a member of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society and spent last semester studying abroad in Oxford. After graduation she plans to be an editor of children’s or young adult literature. She would like to thank her parents, her wonderful ACU friends and professors, and her past English teachers for instilling her love of reading and the English language.

Meet Kennedy Morrison

Kennedy Morrison is a sophomore from Irving, Texas. She is studying Social Work with a minor in Spanish and is on the Dean’s List.

Since arriving at ACU, Kennedy has become a Peer Leader, joined the Honors College, and begun working in the office of Social Work. She is also involved with the on campus organization the Swing Cats. After graduating, she hopes to attend graduate school and receive her Master of Social Work degree.

Kennedy would like to thank her wonderful family for always supporting her, and for instilling in her love, compassion, and a desire to learn. She would also like to thank all the wonderful people at ACU who have challenged her and helped her find new opportunities.

Meet Mattie Herrera

Mattie Herrera is a sophomore from Bedford, Texas. She is currently majoring in Speech Pathology with a minor in Spanish.

During her time here at ACU she has been involved with NSSLHA, the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, as well as an active member of the social club Ko Jo Kai. After graduating, she plans to pursue a Masters in Speech Pathology or a Doctorate in Audiology.

Mattie would like to thank her family and friends for all of their constant support in everything she chooses to do.

Meet Kirby Lemon

Kirby Lemon is currently a junior at Abilene Christian University, earning a double major in International Studies: Latin America and Spanish with a minor in Public Service through her participation in the Jack Pope Fellows Program.

Kirby is also a member of the Honors College and Sigma Delta Pi Honors Society. She studied abroad in Montevideo, Uruguay as part of the first immersion Spanish program with ACU. Kirby will be completing a six-week internship with a summer camp in Spain this June, where she has volunteered the previous two summers.

Kirby plans to pursue a graduate degree to prepare her for a career with non-profit, non-government organizations.
