Wildcat Weekly Gets First Sponsor

For the past three years ACU Esports Club has run over 70 Wildcat Weeklys Super Smash Bros. tournaments. These tournaments have free entry and start at 7 P.M. every Friday. Starting this month, Anime Sekai, a convention that celebrates anime and geek culture here in Abilene, sponsored ACU Esports and the first-place prize for each Wildcat Weekly is a 3 Day pass for Anime Sekai.

Anime Sekai, as a convention, has been operating since 2017, hosting celebrities, voice actors, cosplayers, and fans at the Abilene Convention Center. In 2020, after the COVID Pandemic, they canceled their convention for that year and made plans to return in 2021, but due to COVID concerns, they decided to retire the convention. After a 3 year hiatus, Anime Sekai has made plans to return in June 2023. Anime Sekai includes cosplay contests, otaku talent shows, art contests, card game tournaments, anime rave parties, and video game tournaments. ACU Esports is hosting the video game tournaments, such as Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Multiversus. Notable guests that have been invited to Anime Sekai over the years include voice actor Paul St. Peter, voice actress Whitney Rodgers, voice actress Megan Hollingshead, cosplayer BCharlotteD, and cosplayer Ithileryn.
