It was the perfect time to fit in one last summer adventure. We flew into Tegucigalpa and then drove three hours into the mountains to the Mission Lazarus Ranch. Mission Lazarus is a non-profit organization that seeks to empower Hondurans as they show them Christ\u2019s love. It is an organization that reaches into many areas of Honduran life by providing locals with access to medical care and education, as well as having an on-site children\u2019s refuge that <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3784 alignright\" alt=\"IMG_2158\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/honorscollege\/files\/2014\/10\/IMG_2158-240x320.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/honorscollege\/files\/2014\/10\/IMG_2158-240x320.jpg 240w, https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/honorscollege\/files\/2014\/10\/IMG_2158-500x666.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/>provides familial care for orphaned children. The fourth branch of Mission Lazarus\u2019 outreach is an agricultural project. This component employs many Hondurans, primarily at their coffee plantation, which in turn allows them to be able to provide for their families.<\/p>\n<p>We focused on the concept of social entrepreneurship as we met with various local business owners and compared their methods and their impact on the community. Honduras struggles with corruption and impoverishment and these businesses are providing employment, tackling one of the country\u2019s main needs. Mission Lazarus is a wonderful example of how a job can enrich someone\u2019s life. They provide jobs that not only provide a fair wage, but provide a sense of community and spiritual growth. Their work to love and empower people is a great example of how to run a business not only in a developing country, but with Christian principles, wherever it may be.<\/p>\n<p>This experience was helpful in deepening my understanding of social entrepreneurship, of how businesses, both for profit and not for profit, can be used to enrich people\u2019s lives.
