When I first heard about this trip, I wasn\u2019t sure I wanted to go. This study abroad\/mission trip was with COBA where we would be taking business classes. I was unsure of going because I was not a business major and had never taken any form of business class. I decided to go anyway, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.<\/span><\/p>\n This trip was 28 days long, so just about a month. We went during the summer to two Central American countries. We stayed in Costa Rica for three weeks and Honduras for one week.\u00a0 While in Costa Rica, we visited many different kinds of business companies and met with people in charge of them. They had the chance to talk to us about what they did, and it really allowed us to see some key similarities and differences between what running a company in their country versus running a company in the United States is like. Our weekly schedule usually had a few sessions of class time with our professors, homework assignments, visiting companies, and free time to explore.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Throughout our time in Costa Rica, we got to stay in many amazing places. We traveled from the big city of San Jose to the mountains in Sarapiqui. What is amazing about all of the different places we went was that it was only about a four to five-hour drive to make it to a completely different environment. For example, after we left the mountains, we took a four-hour drive and made it to the beach in Costa Rica. It was insane and amazing. Imagine driving four hours across Texas, not many changes. In Costa Rica, we were able to drive from the city to the mountains, to the beach, and even to the rainforest within four-hour drives to each place.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Not only did we do homework and classwork and business visits, but we were also able to take part in many activities that some of the companies offered. For instance, we were able to go horseback riding and ziplining in the mountains, and we got to take surfing lessons at the beach!<\/span><\/p>\n After Costa Rica, we moved to Honduras. There, we stayed at Mission Lazarus. Mission Lazarus was a breathtaking, amazing place. While we were here, we were able to hear about their business and all of the things they do. We were also able to go down to the nearby city and meet and talk with many companies there about their businesses as well. I think it was really interesting being able to compare three different countries on how they work and run businesses. At Mission Lazarus, we were able to help for a day making fertilizer for the coffee plants to use. This was really cool and fun to be able to actually have hands-on experience on what many people\u2019s jobs are over there.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While all the things on the trip are so memorable and sweet, the friends you become close with on the trip are truly lifelong friendships. It is one thing to be able to study abroad and learn so much for yourself, but it is another thing to enjoy it together with whoever is in your group.
