I was promoted to associate professor (and granted tenure) in fall 2015 and I am now in my tenth year teaching at ACU. I believe that I have contributed and will continue to contribute positively to the university by my teaching, scholarship, service and collegiality.

This portfolio demonstrates that I have met all university and departmental promotion criteria as described in the handbook. The left sidebar provides links to documentation of my work and some reflective writing; these menus will be visible from any page in the portfolio and should be used for navigation.

Teaching
I began with little teaching experience but I have worked diligently to improve the style and content of my courses and the overall computer science curriculum. I want to teach in a manner that enables any interested student to connect with and better understand computer science. More information about my teaching is made available in the Teaching menu.

Scholarship
I am actively engaged in expanding the knowledge in my discipline, pursuing research goals together with students and colleagues. More information about my past and current work is made available in the Scholarship menu.

Service
I am committed to serving in various domains, including my family, my church, my department, the university and my discipline. More information about my efforts in each role is made available in the Service menu.

Collegiality
I believe that all faculty, staff, and students at ACU share a commitment to a common purpose, encompassing but also going beyond the educational goals. We are a community of Christians. I encounter my colleagues and students on campus, at church, in the grocery store and in my home. This is my community and my life. More information is made available in the Collegiality menu.

Evidence
Documentation of my efforts and improvement over time – curriculum vitae, solicited recommendations, course evaluations – are made available in the Evidence menu (bottom-most in the sidebar). Many of these evidences are referenced from other pages – for example, when I refer to someone who has written a recommendation letter for me, the name also will link to the letter.

The major purpose, of my work

I have always valued my opportunity to attend a Christian college. While studying the logical principles of computer science, I also learned more about faith, belief and the history and teachings of the church. My professors daily demonstrated life as a citizen in the kingdom of God. I never saw a break between my chosen career path and my beliefs, but saw numerous examples of people who served God through all facets of life. While in college, my childhood faith transformed into an individual and independent faith, paralleling but not relying on the faith of my parents.

Now that I am myself an educator, I want to participate in providing this same type of environment for young men and women who also face the challenge of freedom and must choose for themselves to follow Jesus.

I believe that God is reflected in all of His creation, including the beauty and consistency seen in logic. I want to show students that the principles of computer science point to God as much as do the gospel stories. I want to be an example to them, as I seek daily to be for my own children. Jesus commissioned us, the inheritors of his example and teachings, to share our knowledge of Him with everyone. This world needs the light of well-educated, strongly-principled Christians working in all fields and showing by their lives that Jesus is the way, truth and life we all seek.

The minor purpose, of these pages I am applying for promotion to full professor, according to the procedures specified in the ACU faculty handbook.
