{"id":160,"date":"2014-07-22T11:32:17","date_gmt":"2014-07-22T16:32:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/jenniferhuddleston\/?page_id=160"},"modified":"2016-09-17T07:22:53","modified_gmt":"2016-09-17T12:22:53","slug":"reflection-on-teacher-evaluations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/jenniferhuddleston\/teaching\/reflection-on-teacher-evaluations\/","title":{"rendered":"Summarizing Reflection on Student Opinion of Instructor Surveys"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Student Opinion of Instructor Surveys can give some useful information.\u00a0 I have used them to improve classes, in particular BIOL 101: Human Perspectives in Biology.\u00a0 The results of the surveys typically confirm what I previously determined.\u00a0 For example, I have always believed that I presented the course material the best in the BIOL 355 and BIOL 357: Microbiology lecture and lab than in any other of my courses.\u00a0 The data from the surveys support my conclusion.\u00a0 <a title=\"BIOL 355 and BIOL 357: Microbiology Lecture and Lab\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/jenniferhuddleston\/teaching\/reflections-on-courses-and-teaching-evaluations\/biol-355-and-biol-357-microbiology\/\">Click here for a reflection on this topic.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another conclusion can be made from averaging all of the data for each semester and comparing the averages to one another.\u00a0 This conclusion is that my\u00a0students now rate me higher as an instructor than they did my first semester teaching at ACU.\u00a0 Since Spring of 2012, my ratings have plateaued. This was not too surprising.\u00a0 I felt like I survived my first semester of teaching, and that I could have only gotten better.\u00a0 I hope someone learned something along the way besides me that semester.\u00a0 I do feel like I am a little better of an instructor every semester compared to the last, but that small change may not be reflected in the student surveys.<\/p>\n<p>With these student surveys I try to look at overall trends.\u00a0 I try not to too quickly dismiss negative critiques nor dwell on the overwhelmingly positive statements either.
