In practice, this has meant attending Zoom webinars, scholarly presentations by fellow faculty members and guest speakers, and mentoring and sponsoring student research. On February 6th, 2017, I gave a public lecture for CSART<\/a> on Muslim-Christian relations entitled, “Contact, Conversation, and Conversion.” The following fall, I modified this talk for the CSART Pathway at ACU Summit. In 2017-2018, I served on the faculty search committee when Wes Crawford was hired to fill the vacancy left by Doug Foster’s retirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After many years of faithful service, Tim Sensing decided to step down as associate dean, and I served on the committee that interviewed faculty and made a recommendation to the dean for the new appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The student services committee aims to enhance the campus and extracurricular experience of our residential students. Increasingly, our residential students lament the perceived lack of community in the GST. When I was a graduate student, we had a robust, student-led GST community, so it was surprising to me that our current crop of graduate students find it challenging to connect deeply. I think this reflects a wider societal change in how young people socialize (or don’t). They also seem to work longer hours and have less time for social activities. We’ve been trying to find ways to serve our students better in this regard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The GST Regula is a short statement of disciplines and commitments shared by GST faculty (see the Regula document here<\/a>). This committee is charged with incorporating these commitments into our regular routines as a faculty. This committee also conducted a review of Graduate Chapel and initiated an experimental change to the leadership and format. (Please see my Reflection on Service<\/a> for more about reviewing Graduate Chapel.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our online program experienced a burst of growth soon after we partnered with ACU Dallas, and this growth meant that we needed to rapidly expand our adjunct faculty pool. This committee reviews and vets adjunct applications to ensure that our adjuncts are a good fit academically and pastorally to represent the GST to our distance students. We presented our best candidates to the full GST faculty for faculty approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I joined the GST faculty the year before our accrediting body, the Association of Theological Schools, had its regular accreditation visit. Doug Foster led my committee as we revised the standards that our committee was assigned. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Center for the Study of Ancient Religious Texts (CSART)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
One of my favorite CSART activities was organizing and leading a Women in Academia Luncheon, entitled “Life, Work, and Women in the Academy” in the spring of 2019. Drs. Amanda Pittman and Mindi Thompson helped me with practical arrangements and made invaluable suggestions for how to structure the conversation. Laura Estes, one of our MA graduates who was a Ph.D. candidate at St. Louis University at the time, joined us virtually to talk about her experience in a Ph.D. program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
