Since 2008, representatives from the Brown Library and the Adams Center for Teaching and Learning have met with faculty from Communications, Art & Design, and English to develop the vision for the Learning Studio. Our work included lessons learned from the original Learning Commons team, surveys of successful media centers around the country, as well as site visits and consultation with other university libraries. In 2009, Dr. Dwayne VanRheenen and the LINK Team funded our first proof-of-concept location. The Digital Media Center opened that fall, directed by Dr. Kyle Dickson with student staff supplied by Team55 and the Adams Center.<\/p>\n

In May of 2010 we announced we would be\u00a0part of a $1.8 million gift from AT&T<\/a> to support continued exploration of mobile learning. The grant provides resources for the\u00a0mobile research fellows program<\/a> led by the Adams Center and the Office for Institutional Research and Sponsored Programs, creating the new K-12 Digital Learning Institute program led by the Department of Teacher Education, and expanding media creation capabilities in the new AT&T Learning Studio.<\/p>\n
