This semester Dr. Laura Carroll&#8217;s <strong>English 111: Composition and Rhetoric<\/strong> students produced short video responses to the typical Proposing a Solution prompt. This is just a part of Dr. Carroll&#8217;s assignment:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Proposing a solution is a common writing task in personal and professional life. You call your audience\u2019s attention to a problem, offer a solution, and urge the reader to act on your proposal. You will learn to analyze the problem, evaluate possible responses to the problem, select one solution, and argue the effectiveness of your solution to your audience.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Basic\u00a0Features\u00a0of\u00a0Evaluation\u00a0Essays<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2022\u00a0A\u00a0clearly\u00a0defined\u00a0problem,\u00a0framed\u00a0as\u00a0a\u00a0question\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0early\u00a0stages\u00a0of\u00a0writing<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2022\u00a0An\u00a0effective\u00a0solution<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2022\u00a0A\u00a0convincing\u00a0argument\u00a0in\u00a0support\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0proposed\u00a0solution<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2022 Anticipation\u00a0of\u00a0reader\u2019s\u00a0objections\u00a0and\u00a0a\u00a0response\u00a0to\u00a0those\u00a0objections<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2022 An\u00a0evaluation\u00a0of\u00a0alternative\u00a0solutions<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2022 A\u00a0call\u00a0to\u00a0action<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The students came over to the Learning Studio for a training session in Camtasia for Mac which allowed them to bring together a variety of media types into their final projects.
