{"id":2794,"date":"2013-06-10T17:00:36","date_gmt":"2013-06-10T22:00:36","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2014-09-02T22:47:28","modified_gmt":"2014-09-03T03:47:28","slug":"we-are-makers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/learningstudio\/2013\/06\/10\/we-are-makers\/","title":{"rendered":"We Are Makers released"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week we released a short documentary on the Maker Movement as part of broader discussions on campus about the value of &#8220;learning by doing.&#8221; We&#8217;re pleased to share it with the ACU community as so many here on campus contributed to its final shape.<\/p>\n<p>We spent several weeks in March interviewing key voices thinking about the impact of making in different contexts\u2014in community centers and libraries, in education and museums, and in hackerspaces and online.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/66162292\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" frameborder=\"0\" title=\"We Are Makers\" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visit <a href=\"http:\/\/wearemakers.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>wearemakers.org <\/b><\/a>for additional interviews<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Special Thanks<\/h3>\n<p>We&#8217;ve already had a chance to thank those who welcomed us into their makerspaces and workshops while shooting in Austin and NYC, but we did want a chance to share a few of the Abilene connections.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>thanks to <strong>Michael Daugherity<\/strong> and the department of Engineering and Physics for return visits to film their 3D printer and begin thinking about its future impact<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sandy Freeman<\/strong> welcomed us into the ACU Theatre Costume Shop where <strong>Amanda Martin<\/strong> made a dress on the spot<\/li>\n<li>we spent a great afternoon with <strong>James Langford<\/strong> dusting off our macro lenses to shoot tools in his shop<\/li>\n<li><strong>Megan May<\/strong> in the library not only shared her lightening-fast knitting but also introduced us to student maker<strong> Brittany Bunch<\/strong> who is both an Etsy seller (at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.etsy.com\/shop\/ProjectsforBliss\/sold?ref=shopinfo_sales_leftnav\" target=\"_blank\">Projects for Bliss<\/a>) and a part-time Disney princess<\/li>\n<li><strong>Evan Young<\/strong> helped edit the additional footage for <a href=\"http:\/\/wearemakers.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">wearemakers.org<\/a> while Matt and Nathan were heads-down on the final film<\/li>\n<li>and finally <strong>Elvis Sanchez<\/strong> who worked with Nathan to score the transitions in the film with stunning work on a tight deadline<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The production of the film itself just reminded us how many makers surround us here in Abilene, making this a logical spot to open a makerspace of our own.<\/p>\n<p>Details coming this fall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week we released a short documentary on the Maker Movement as part of broader discussions on campus about the value of &#8220;learning by doing.&#8221; We&#8217;re pleased to share it with the ACU community as so many here on campus contributed to its final shape.
