This summer, Brown Library will renovate the east side of the Learning Commons into a community space for book browsing and reading. This Reading Commons will be full of new and recommended books and periodicals, new shelving, comfortable seating and tables with good lighting.

We are excited to announce that the library has already begun supporting special literary events in this space! Last October, on Halloween, in partnership with the Department of Language and Literature, we hosted Cover2Cover –  a marathon-style reading of

Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The event had a great turnout and included readings from ACU president Dr. Phil Schubert, ACU provost Dr. Robert Rhodes, and our own Dr. John Weaver.

Tomorrow, Feb. 22nd, the library again partners with the Department of Language and LIterature to bring you Story Shorts, a monthly reading of favorite short stories. Join us in the Reading Commons from noon – 1 p.m. as Dr. Todd Womble, assistant professor of Language and Literature, reads “A Good Man is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor and Dr. Bill Carroll, associate professor, reads “The One Who Walks Away from Omelas” by Ursula K. Le Guin.
