The Maker Lab’s summer expansion projects are complete, which includes a new printmaking area. In addition to the new press purchased last spring, the Maker Lab acquired four vintage font sets for letterpress once owned and used by the Silverton Standard newspaper in Silverton, Colorado. The staff of Maker Lab recently made custom placement furniture and letter trays to be used for moveable type projects. “We are excited to see what students and faculty will do with these new tools,” commented Darren Wilson, Maker Lab Director. “We’re always pleasantly surprised to see what our community members come up with.” In addition to projects using these type faces, students and faculty will be able to etch and cut plates on linoleum and wood blocks using the Maker Lab’s laser cutters and cnc router.
