{"id":1029,"date":"2018-11-20T13:17:19","date_gmt":"2018-11-20T19:17:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/?p=1029"},"modified":"2018-11-20T13:17:19","modified_gmt":"2018-11-20T19:17:19","slug":"waynai-bible-returns-to-acu-this-december","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/2018\/11\/20\/waynai-bible-returns-to-acu-this-december\/","title":{"rendered":"Waynai Bible returns to ACU this December"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1030 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/files\/2018\/11\/Waynai-Bible-1-300x228.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"228\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/files\/2018\/11\/Waynai-Bible-1-300x228.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/files\/2018\/11\/Waynai-Bible-1-150x114.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/files\/2018\/11\/Waynai-Bible-1-490x373.jpg 490w, https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/files\/2018\/11\/Waynai-Bible-1.jpg 722w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The Waynai Bible that was donated to ACU in 1956 and on exhibit in the Brown Library for 57 years has been on loan to the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Museum of the Bible (Washington, D.C.)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> since April of 2013 and will return to ACU this December for a yearlong stay. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During its time away, the Bible underwent conservation treatment by Francisco Rodriguez at the Museum of the Bible\u2019s Oklahoma Green Collection facility. \u00a0The repair entailed years of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">detailed work because of the state of deterioration of the paper. \u00a0Rodriguez reported, \u201cWe stabilized it and brought Waynai\u2019s Bible back to life, so to speak.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0In all, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the conservator used 7 1\/2 miles of Japanese mending paper. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Even while the most unstable parts of it were undergoing restoration, the Bible became part of a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.museumofthebible.org\/exhibits\/global\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">traveling exhibit<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> called \u201cPassages\u201d in Colorado Springs, Colorado, by Museum of the Bible in 2014. In 2018, in honor of the Reformation, the restored Waynai Bible traveled to Germany. \u00a0It was a focal point of Museum of the Bible\u2019s \u201cThis is Our Book\u201d exhibit, and was displayed in Augsburg and Wittenberg. A special crate was built for it so that it would travel safely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ACU and Museum of the Bible have agreed to a four-year loan cycle for the world\u2019s largest Bible, so that ACU students will see it at home in Brown Library at least once while they are enrolled at ACU. After a year on display here, the Waynai Bible will return to Museum of the Bible for three years, where it will represent ACU to millions of visitors in Washington, D.C.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt a fascinating testament to how Louis Waynai blended a vision, novel ingenuity, and skilled craftsmanship to raise awareness of the Bible,\u201d observed Mac Ice, Director of Special Collections and Archives. \u00a0\u201cThere\u2019s no way around it, it is one-of-a-kind, and it never fails to accomplish what Waynai intended.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Waynai Bible is a hand-stamped copy of the entire King James Bible measuring 43.5 inches tall and 98 inches wide. \u00a0Closed, the spine is 34 inches thick.
