{"id":1204,"date":"2019-08-20T14:29:59","date_gmt":"2019-08-20T19:29:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/?p=1204"},"modified":"2019-08-20T15:58:25","modified_gmt":"2019-08-20T20:58:25","slug":"special-collections-and-archives-receives-national-endowment-for-the-humanities-grant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/2019\/08\/20\/special-collections-and-archives-receives-national-endowment-for-the-humanities-grant\/","title":{"rendered":"Special Collections and Archives Receives National Endowment for the Humanities Grant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1205 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/files\/2019\/08\/NEH-Preferred-Seal820-300x136.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"102\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/files\/2019\/08\/NEH-Preferred-Seal820-300x136.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/files\/2019\/08\/NEH-Preferred-Seal820-150x68.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/files\/2019\/08\/NEH-Preferred-Seal820-768x348.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/files\/2019\/08\/NEH-Preferred-Seal820-490x222.jpg 490w, https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/files\/2019\/08\/NEH-Preferred-Seal820-1080x490.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/files\/2019\/08\/NEH-Preferred-Seal820.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.neh.gov\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">National Endowment for the Humanities<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (NEH) has awarded a $40,000 grant to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/specialcollections\/#.XVxZhpNKjBI\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ACU Special Collections and Archives<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> as part of its Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections program.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The grant will enable the archive to evaluate and plan for optimizing the physical storage conditions and preservation environment for its holdings of over 30,000 rare books and nearly 500 manuscript collections related to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/specialcollections\/digital-research\/#.XVxZ45NKjBI\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Stone-Campbell religious movement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (also known as the American Restoration movement), as well as records pertaining to the Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) denomination and the nondenominational Churches of Christ and Christian Churches.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;This grant will allow us to take a major step forward in providing optimal storage conditions for the priceless records of our past,&#8221; said Mac Ice, Director of Special Collections and Archives.\u00a0 \u201cWe are partnering with an expert architect and preservation consultant who understands the value of our collections, the unique climate of West Texas, and industry best-practices.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This year NEH grants totaling $29 million will be awarded in over a dozen categories to 215 cultural heritage institutions.\u00a0 The grant to ACU is one of eighteen Sustaining Cultural Heritage Grants awarded nationwide, and the only one granted to a Texas institution.\u00a0 \u201cTo have NEH recognize the value of our collections, and help us sustain them, is significant.
