{"id":1465,"date":"2020-02-20T13:52:19","date_gmt":"2020-02-20T19:52:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/?p=1465"},"modified":"2020-02-20T13:52:19","modified_gmt":"2020-02-20T19:52:19","slug":"virtual-reality-in-the-classroom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/2020\/02\/20\/virtual-reality-in-the-classroom\/","title":{"rendered":"Virtual Reality in the Classroom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1466 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/files\/2020\/02\/VR-in-classroom-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During the Summer 2019 semester, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/innovation_foundry\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the Innovation Foundry<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> partnered with <\/span><b>Andres Saucedo (\u201814)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, instructor of biology, to teach the physiology of the heart using a virtual reality application called <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sharecare.com\/pages\/vr\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ShareCare<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In his Anatomy &amp; Physiology II lab, Saucedo walked through the structures of a 3d virtual model of a heart that was pumping blood while wearing a virtual reality headset (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oculus.com\/rift-s\/?locale=en_US\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Oculus Rift S<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">). Saucedo projected his viewpoint onto the projector screen and made the recording of his descriptions available to the students afterward through his <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/canvas.instructure.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Canvas<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> course. After piloting the use of VR during the summer with positive feedback from his students, Saucedo has continued to use this technology each semester and plans to explore the possibility of expanding to include additional body systems.
