The panel discussion, titled \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What We&#8217;ve Learned: Recovering Hope for Christian Universities,\u201d was led by Dr. Mindi Thompson (ACU) and included panelists from ACU, Harding University, and Liberty University. The panel was part of the Teaching, Learning, and Technology section. The topics discussed included challenges during the pandemic, the role technology played in helping or hindering teaching and learning, and what God taught us in order to move Christian higher education forward.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">photo credit:\u00a0 Kristi Jones, Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2073 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/files\/2021\/09\/Library-Headshots-2021-4-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><b>Laura Baker (<\/b><b>\u2019<\/b><b>87)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, librarian for user experience and assessment, was featured in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dttp:\u00a0 Documents to the People<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which is the official journal of the Government Documents division of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ala.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">American Library Association<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. It has a column called \u201cGet to Know\u2026\u201d that profiles notable librarians who work with government publications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The journal contacted Baker after she gave a presentation at the national <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fdlp.gov\/about\/conferences\/2021-fdl-conference\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Federal Depository Library Conference<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> where she described how a library can use existing tools and staff to digitize and share government publications.\u00a0 &#8220;It&#8217;s a way to take small-scale digitization efforts and make the results available worldwide.\u00a0 We used it frequently during the switch to online classes, and it really highlights the value of our depository collection.\u00a0 Best of all, the documents can be used by anyone online, so it continues to benefit people way beyond campus.\u00a0 I feel good that we can share our resources in an open-access-friendly way.&#8221;\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You can read more about the project and about government documents at ACU in the article at\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/journals.ala.org\/index.php\/dttp\/article\/view\/7534\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/journals.ala.org\/index.php\/dttp\/article\/view\/7534<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-2074\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/files\/2021\/09\/Library-Headshots-2021-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2075\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/library\/files\/2021\/09\/mac-ice-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b>Amanda (Arzigian \u201912) Dietz<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,\u00a0 archivist, and Mac Ice, director of archives and special collections, attended the <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.archivists.org\/\">Society of American Archivists<\/a> virtual conference, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www2.archivists.org\/am2021\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Archives*Records 2021: Together\/Apart<\/span><\/i> <\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">in early August.\u00a0 Highlights include sessions on research in archives and case studies on the increase of digital and distance initiatives over the last few years that will serve archives well into the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In June Mac Ice presented a paper at <a href=\"https:\/\/christianscholarsconference.org\/\">Christian Scholars Conference<\/a>.\u00a0 Drawing from our extensive collection of hymnals in the Taylor Hymnal Collection, Mac surveyed the impact of John Moody\u2019s McCaleb\u2019s gospel song \u2018The Gospel Is for All.\u2019\u00a0 The song became a missionary anthem for Churches of Christ in the 20th century in large measure because of its inclusion in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Great Songs of the Church<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which was published one hundred years ago, and was unveiled on Restoration Day as a new Special Collections exhibit celebrating the centennial of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Great Songs of the Church.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Melissa (Johnson \u201994) Atkinson, director of distance and online services, was an invited panelist at the Christian Scholars\u2019 Conference at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee.
