The special event, <\/span><b>\u201cIncurable Optimism: An Evening with Kate Bowler,\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> will be held in the Hunter Welcome Center\u2019s McCaleb Conference Center on ACU\u2019s campus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kate studies the cultural stories we tell ourselves about success, suffering, and whether (or not) we\u2019re capable of change. She is the author of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Blessed: A History of the American Prosperity Gospel<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Preacher\u2019s Wife: The Precarious Power of Evangelical Women Celebrities<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. After being unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage IV cancer at age 35, she penned the New York Times bestselling memoir, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Everything Happens for a Reason (and Other Lies I\u2019ve Loved)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and her latest, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No Cure For Being Human (and Other Truths I Need to Hear)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Kate hosts the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Everything Happens<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> podcast where, in warm, insightful, often funny conversations, she talks with people like Malcolm Gladwell and Anne Lamott about what they\u2019ve learned in difficult times. She lives in Durham, North Carolina with her family and continues to teach do-gooders at Duke Divinity School.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIf you\u2019ve read any of Kate\u2019s books or listened to her podcast, you know she brings a contagious cheer to our challenging time.
