{"id":232,"date":"2021-07-13T14:33:29","date_gmt":"2021-07-13T19:33:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/provost\/?p=232"},"modified":"2021-07-13T14:33:29","modified_gmt":"2021-07-13T19:33:29","slug":"3-3-leaves-for-pursuit-of-a-terminal-degree","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/provost\/3-3-leaves-for-pursuit-of-a-terminal-degree\/","title":{"rendered":"3.3 Leaves for Pursuit of a Terminal Degree"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Responsible Body:\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Office of the Provost<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Date of Last Review:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0June 25, 2021<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A non-tenured faculty member teaching at ACU for at least three years may apply for a leave of\u00a0 absence for further graduate studies.\u00a0 In addition, because of unique circumstances, the provost may negotiate an agreement of support for an individual who will join the faculty in the future. Whether the leave is granted will depend on the following: 1) the need for additional terminal degrees in the\u00a0 faculty member\u2019s department\/school; 2) the probability that the faculty member can carry the\u00a0 program to a successful conclusion; and 3) the availability of funds in the academic budget.\u00a0 Any leave will be granted on certain conditions. Typically, leaves function in these ways:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The faculty member and the provost will reach agreement on the terms of support for\u00a0 pursuit of a terminal degree. Support may include some level of compensation and\/or\u00a0 reimbursement for a portion of tuition expenses.
