{"id":236,"date":"2021-07-13T15:06:21","date_gmt":"2021-07-13T20:06:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/provost\/?p=236"},"modified":"2021-07-30T13:28:42","modified_gmt":"2021-07-30T18:28:42","slug":"3-6-services-available-to-faculty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/provost\/3-6-services-available-to-faculty\/","title":{"rendered":"3.6 Services Available to Faculty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Responsible Body:\u00a0 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Office of the Provost<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Date of Last Review:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0 June 25, 2021<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><b>University Mail Services<\/b><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">University Mail Services provides a\u00a0 full range of mail and shipping services for the ACU community.\u00a0 Products and services are available for department\/school charge or personal payment.\u00a0 In most cases, faculty members get their mail from their department\/school\u2019s office.\u00a0 Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn01.acu.edu\/community\/student-life\/services\/mail\/overview.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mail Services\u2019 website<\/a> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for hours, the services available, mail preparation\u00a0 instructions, and relevant processing goals or deadlines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Faculty members may send campus mail to anyone with an ACU mailbox.\u00a0 Campus mail should be addressed with the recipient\u2019s full name and ACU mailbox number. The campus mail policy and\u00a0 preparation instructions are available on the website listed above.\u00a0 Commercial mail, including an ACU employee\u2019s personal business, is not allowed in campus mail to ACU employees.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><b>Brown Library<\/b><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Brown Library exists to serve faculty in their central academic tasks of research, learning, and teaching. Faculty members should feel free to discuss their needs with the Dean of Library Services and Educational Technology or with the librarian in charge of any particular area.<\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b>Library Research Support for Faculty<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">See the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acu.edu\/library\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">library website<\/a> for general information about web-based resources, interlibrary loan, hours, check-out privileges, and research rooms.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Adding Books, Journals, and Databases to the Collection.\u00a0<\/span>Library faculty and professional librarians collaborate with faculty to build and maintain collections that support the research interests of the university, of particular disciplines and departments\/schools, and of individual professors.\u00a0 Faculty members should talk with their department\/school\u2019s liaison librarian to add new books, journals and databases.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">TexShare Cards.\u00a0<\/span>The TexShare Consortium of academic and public libraries in the state provides free or low-cost walkup access to resources, an ID card for borrowing books, and a statewide distribution service.\u00a0 Faculty members planning to visit a member library in Texas should sign up for a TexShare card at the Brown Library circulation desk.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><b>Learning Support<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ACU has created a unique student-focused collaborative service, the Learning Commons, which features group study spaces designed to support undergraduate research and study in a technology-rich environment.\u00a0 ACU designed the Learning Commons to be the place of choice for learning outside the classroom and for completing every phase of an academic project from inception to publication.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Learning Commons partners include traditional Library Services (circulation, research assistance, a printed reference collection, and online resources), an art gallery, a caf\u00e9, Educational Technology, Team 55 Technology Support, the Speaking Center, the Writing Center, and the Learning Studio.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Instructional Support<\/b><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Collection Evaluation.\u00a0<\/span>Each department\/school\u2019s liaison librarian will prepare a collection evaluation to help faculty in getting any new course or program approved.\u00a0 Collection evaluations assess the library\u2019s ability to support proposed courses.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reserves.\u00a0<\/span>The Library Circulation Service places books, articles, and AV materials on reserve for particular courses as requested by professors.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How to Put Items on Reserve:<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Faculty members should bring any personal or library item to the Reserve Office at circulation at least 24 hours before they expect the students to call for the materials.\u00a0 If a faculty member has a number of items, he or she should allow more processing time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Faculty members should fill out a reserve form at the Circulation Desk, giving the course name and number as they appear in the course schedule, the desired loan period, and handling instructions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Faculty members should provide a copy of the course syllabus.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When the item is no longer needed, faculty members should notify the Reserve Office.\u00a0 Faculty members should allow one business day for processing and then pick up personal items promptly.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If faculty members have AV materials, they should follow the same procedure at the AV desk on the lower level.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Faculty members should be aware of their responsibility to comply with copyright law.\u00a0 Help with copyright is available at the Research Desk.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Information Literacy.\u00a0<\/span>The library faculty is happy to collaborate with faculty members to teach research strategies, methods of determining high quality information, and the basic elements of\u00a0 academic integrity.\u00a0 Typically the conversation begins with the faculty member\u2019s expression of interest in the structured use of library materials in course assignments.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Region XIV Education Center. Faculty members may call Region XIV for films and other instructional materials, which will be delivered weekly to the ACU Library Circulation Desk on Friday mornings.\u00a0 Faculty members should return borrowed Region XIV items to the Circulation Desk the following week.\u00a0 A Region XIV catalog is kept at the Research Assistance Desk in the Learning Commons.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Library Policies of Interest to the Faculty. Written policies are in force for the areas listed below.\u00a0 Copies of these policies are available on request at the office of the Dean of Library Services and Educational Development.\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Collection Development<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Circulation Policies (for all types of users)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Faculty Overdue Policy<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Interlibrary Loan Policy<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mission of the Library<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reference Service Policy<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reserves Policy<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h1><b>Registrar<\/b><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The registrar serves as the official custodian of all academic records of the university.\u00a0 The basic responsibilities of the registrar are to initiate and manage academic processes including, but not limited to, registration, academic standing, readmission, grading, and graduation; provide transcript service for current and former students; evaluate and articulate transcripts from other schools; coordinate intercollegiate enrollment (HSU and McMurry); maintain degree audits and certify students for graduation and other eligibility requests; prepare and submit records for the Veterans Administration (for students receiving VA benefits); and establish (in consultation with deans and directors) policies, procedures, and processes.
