The growing number of older adults in the nation and the world is creating opportunities for most majors to focus on leading and serving an aging population. The Minor may be obtained through the Pruett Gerontology Center and the College of Education and Human Services (CEHS) as a specialization in conjunction with any other degree. <\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><span class=\"st\"><strong>The Minor in Aging Studies focuses on six objectives:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><strong>Objective 1 &#8211; Concepts and Theories Used to Study Aging: <\/strong>Demonstrate the ability to evaluate, from a developmental (bio\/psycho\/social) theoretical framework, personal life strengths characteristics which can assist in dealing with challenges faced by functional decline in later life.<br \/>\n<strong>Objective 2 Personal Ethics: <\/strong>Demonstrate a knowledge and appreciation of the contributions that aging persons make to their families and society.<br \/>\n<strong>Objective 3 &#8211; Professional Ethics:<\/strong>\u00a0 Demonstrate an understanding of ethical behavior in relation to clients and colleagues in the profession of aging.<br \/>\n<strong>Objective 4 &#8211; Professional Development: <\/strong>\u00a0Demonstrate an ability to identify specific career opportunities appropriate to the student\u2019s academic discipline and major.<br \/>\n<strong>Objective 5 &#8211; Professional Development: <\/strong>\u00a0Demonstrate an ability to apply Gerontological\u00a0 \u00a0elements within the specific academic discipline of the student.<br \/>\n<strong>Outcome 6 Professional Skills: <\/strong>Demonstrate an ability to design research pertaining to issues of aging in light of relevant contextual variables.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><span class=\"st\"><strong>2. The Certificate in Gerontology <\/strong>represents a specialization in the field of <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/pruettgerontology\/2016\/09\/07\/defining-terms-what-does-the-word-gerontology-mean\/\">Gerontology<\/a>. It is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of individuals who work with older adults by providing an educational experience that is multidisciplinary in nature.<\/span> It is a 15-hour articulation which includes a practicum, under the guidance of Dr. Charlie Pruett.<\/p>\n<p>Courses for both the Aging Studies Minor and the Certificate in Gerontology include:<\/p>\n<p>REQUIRED COURSES (9 Hours)<br \/>\nGERO 350\/SOCI 350 Sociology of Aging<\/p>\n<p>GERO 352 Adult Development and Aging<\/p>\n<p>GERO 495\/Practicum In Gerontology<\/p>\n<p>ELECTIVE COURSES (6-9 Hours)<br \/>\nFAM 454 Aging and the Family<br \/>\nGERO 437 Ministering to Older Adults<br \/>\nGERO 441\/SOCW 441 Social Welfare Policy and Services<br \/>\nGERO 448\/BIOL 448\u00a0 Biology of Aging<br \/>\nGERO 479\/COMP 479 Programs and Services for the Elderly<br \/>\nGERO 486 Counseling Older Adults and Their Family<br \/>\nGERO 400 Guided Study<br \/>\nKINE 475 Activity and Aging<br \/>\nNURS 320 Gerontologic Nursing (2 Hours credit)<br \/>\nSOCI 415 Social Research\u00a0 (If project done in aging studies)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">\n<p><strong>#PGCACU<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[subscribe2]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pruett Gerontology Center and the department of Gerontology offers two ways for students to earn distinctions in Gerontology.
