These mp3 files are from reel-to-reel tapes with minimal editing. In a few cases we removed several minutes of dead-air (usually at the beginning or end of a tape) and in one case we had to adjust the volume. But we tried not to take out pops and scratches, or the train whistle. We think this course of action renders a more authentic representation of the analog media. Plus, hearing the train whistle allows you to experience ‘church’ at Portland Avenue Church of Christ (Louisville, KY…where most of the recordings were made) in a unique way. If you would like to volunteer to transcribe these recordings, please contact us.  The original audio reels were obtained and donated to the Center for Restoration Studies by Larry Miles of Louisville, KY.  This audio archive is possible because of his generous donation of the analog media.
