ArcGIS is a platform used to create, manage, share, and analyze spatial data. It consists of server components, mobile and desktop applications, and developer tools.
ArcMap is the primary application used in ArcGIS and is used to perform a wide range of common GIS tasks as well as specialized, user-specific tasks. Some tasks include working with maps, compiling and editing GIS datasets, geoprocessing for automation of work and analysis, organizing and managing geodatabases and ArcGIS documents, and publishing map documents.
