What is the Speaking Center?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The ACU Speaking Center is a campus resource that helps clients improve their public speaking, presentations, speeches, and communication skills in a supportive environment.<\/p>\n

Who can use the Speaking Center?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Speaking Center is open to all students, regardless of major or experience level. It is also open to ACU faculty\/staff and the Abilene community.<\/p>\n

How do I schedule an appointment?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

You can schedule appointments through the \u201cmake an appointment\u201d page on the ACU Speaking Center blog. Or click this link to: Make an Appointment.<\/a> To cancel or reschedule, please contact speakingcenter@acu.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Can I walk in without an appointment?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Scheduling ahead is usually recommended during busy times, but we absolutely accept walk-ins when possible!<\/p>\n

Where are we located?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Speaking Center is located on the 2nd floor of the ACU Brown Library near the AT&T Learning Studio.<\/p>\n

What should I bring to my session?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Bring any assignment instructions, outlines, drafts, note cards, slides, or visual aids related to your presentation for the best assistance!<\/p>\n

Will someone edit or write my speech for me?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

No. The goal is to help you develop your own ideas and speaking skills while offering constructive feedback and guidance.<\/p>\n

Do I have to memorize my speech before coming in?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

No. You can come in at any stage of the process: brainstorming, outlining, drafting, or final rehearsal.<\/p>\n

Can the Speaking Center help with online presentations or Zoom speeches?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Yes, we offer support for virtual presentations, including camera presence, pacing, and online audience engagement.<\/p>\n

How do I make, reschedule, or cancel a Speaking Center appointment?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Appointments can be made, rescheduled, or canceled through our online scheduling system. If you need assistance, contact the Speaking Center directly.<\/p>\n

How are online appointments held?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In-Person Appointments<\/strong> \u2013 Meet live with a consultant face to face at the ACU Speaking Center.<\/p>\n

Digital Appointments<\/strong> \u2013 Meet live with a consultant through a video conferencing platform at your scheduled appointment time. This option is for online students, students with disabilities, summer students, or other exceptional circumstances.<\/p>\n

Can I schedule a group appointment?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Yes! Group appointments are available for presentations involving multiple speakers. Contact the Speaking Center for scheduling details.<\/p>\n

How will my professor know I attended?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

After your appointment, your Speaking Center consultant will submit a report to your instructor giving them a record of your attendance.<\/p>\n

Do I need to have my speech finished before coming?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

No. Consultants can help at any stage of the speech process, from brainstorming and organization to delivery practice and final revisions.<\/p>\n

How do I get hired?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

To become a consultant, you can submit your inquiry or application to the Director Dr. Kholo Theledi (kmt11c@acu.edu<\/a>) or speakingcenter@acu.edu<\/a>. Candidates who have passed COMM 120\/COMM 211 at ACU will be prioritized.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
