{"id":1250,"date":"2014-08-28T05:06:08","date_gmt":"2014-08-28T10:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/specialcollections\/?p=1250"},"modified":"2014-06-16T13:06:04","modified_gmt":"2014-06-16T18:06:04","slug":"tbt-from-acu-special-collections-a-minister-writes-his-family-1891","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.acu.edu\/specialcollections\/2014\/08\/28\/tbt-from-acu-special-collections-a-minister-writes-his-family-1891\/","title":{"rendered":"#tbt from ACU Special Collections: A minister writes his family, 1891"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dallas minister Morrison Meade Davis wrote to his wife and daughter in Sedalia, Missouri on 28 August 1891.\u00a0 In it he writes of the weather, of making pastoral visits, of his loneliness and of the family&#8217;s plans for further travel.\u00a0 He mentions attending a prayer meeting at the Pearl and Bryan Church of Christ, which he describes as &#8220;for the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">head<\/span>, not for the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">heart<\/span>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The letter is one of several (along with many cabinet-card photographs belonging to Davis of Christian Church ministers) acquired by Joe Johnson in the 1990s.\u00a0 The Davis photo and letter collection is one sub-set of Joe&#8217;s remarkable assemblage of Stone-Campbell books, periodicals, ephemera now housed in ACU&#8217;s Center for Restoration Studies.
