In January our colleagues in Technical Services and Cataloging added 119 items to the rare books, University Archives, and Center for Restoration Studies collections.\u00a0 Many of the new items are bound issues of several mid and late 20th century news-oriented periodicals (Christian Worker, Christian Chronicle, Rocky Mountain Christian<\/em>, and Christian Journal<\/em>). These additions either filled in gaps or gave us second copies. We also received a very nice run of the Yearbook of American and Canadian Churches<\/em>.\u00a0 For these reasons the list below represents more items than meets the eye.\u00a0 As I compile this list each month I don’t include duplicate entries for every item.\u00a0 For example, there is no need to list ‘Christian Journal<\/em>‘ eight or nine times. Once will do even though we received multiple bound volumes.\u00a0The unbound, single issue periodicals continue to be a special focus of cooperation between Special Collections and Technical Services, but in January the monographs and periodicals received their due attention.\u00a0 And there are more in the pipeline now, so next months’ report should list even more books that fill out our collection.\u00a0 Also this month are a few new catalog records for some archival collections.\u00a0 Each archival collection also receives a library catalog entry.\u00a0 Amanda has prepared updated, or new, findings aids for a couple\u00a0dozen<\/em> collections, and we will roll out those announcements regularly, so stay tuned.<\/p>\n

I want to mention, again, that institutional newsletters and periodicals remain a collecting focus.\u00a0 See the lists of recent acquisitions in the October<\/a> and November<\/a> 2020 reports.\u00a0 Newsletters, catalogs and yearbooks from sister schools across the Restoration Movement remain a collecting focus.\u00a0 If you can help us build out this set of materials, contact Mac at mac.ice@acu.edu.<\/p>\n

Our goal is to build a comprehensive research-level collection of print materials by, for, and about the Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement.\u00a0 But beyond assembly and preservation, a collection should be discoverable by those who need the information.\u00a0 Collecting and preserving is only part of our task; those objects must be described and made available.\u00a0 Thanks to the close and careful work of our colleagues upstairs, who describe our holdings, these materials are now discoverable. By discoverable I mean a patron can utilize our online catalog<\/a> (such as by searching by author, or title, or subject) to find these materials.<\/p>\n
